TREVOR CARSON The Motherwell keeper commanded his box well early on without being overly tested. Had no chance with either goal, and pulled off a few smart saves late on to keep score down 6
RICHARD TAIT The right-back returned to his natural position for the day from left midfield and was run ragged by Scott Sinclair. Coped well while also dealing with Tierney on overlap 6
CEDRIC KIPRE Ah, Cedric. The enigmatic big Frenchman was a rock in defence early doors for Motherwell, but was perhaps lucky to stay on the park after crunching Dembele early on. Was harshly dismissed as Sinclair softly hit deck to kill game. 4
PETER HARTLEY The on-loan centre-half has been a source of inspiration and goals for Motherwell. While still providing the former, was unable to stop Celtic from eventually breaking the deadlock. 7
CHARLES DUNNE Had the task of keeping Forrest quiet and then Roberts. A tough afternoon. 5
LIAM GRIMSHAW A surprise inclusion after only getting first start last week. Provided legs in the middle of the park but was sacrificed when Motherwell had to chase game. 5
CARL McHUGH The Motherwell captain had already tasted defeat in a cup final wearing claret and amber with Bradford. Worked tirelessly. 6
CHRIS CADDEN The formidable pace of the young winger was deployed more centrally here as Motherwell tried to hit on the counter. Stuck to his task but didn’t get much chance to shine going forward. 6
ANDY ROSE A physical presence in midfield for Motherwell. Competed well but didn’t get a chance to push on. Lasted 70 minutes 5
LOUIS MOULT Motherwell’s talisman and goal hero so often. A header at 1-0 down was superbly saved by Craig Gordon, while smacking the post with the last kick of the ball from a free-kick. Did the best he could. 7
RYAN BOWMAN Usual drive and hunger from the former Gateshead man. Much like Moult, was rarely in a position to threaten before eventually coming off with 25 to go. 5
SUBS
CRAIG TANNER Provided injection of energy and almost played in Moult for a leveller after coming on for Grimshaw after opener. 4
ALLAN CAMPBELL Unlucky not to start the match given his rise to prominence under Stephen Robinson. Came on for Bowman and provided a tenacity to chase Celtic who were happy to pop the ball about. 3
ELLIOTT FREAR Game was done by the time he entered on 70 minutes for Rose 2
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
