Finn Russell has confirmed that he is leaving Glasgow Warriors with French club Racing Metro believed to have recruited the Scotland stand off.

However the day after he was part of a Scotland team that came close to making history against New Zealand’s All Blacks, the 25-year-old expressed his determination to depart the domestic game in style.

“I am fully focussed on Glasgow Warriors and will do everything I can to make my final season at Scotstoun a successful one," he said last night.

Having generated something of a bidding war among French clubs, including former Scotland coach Vern Cotter’s Montpellier, since it emerged that he was willing to leave, Russell said what was being offered was too attractive to turn down.

““I’ve always wanted to experience as much as I can during what is a short rugby career,” he said.

“It was obviously a difficult decision to leave Glasgow, but I have the opportunity to take myself out of my comfort zone and experience a new culture and type of rugby.”
