Craig Gordon: Was left exposed at goal having committed to come for long ball that Boyata unexpectedly let through, but harsh to blame the keeper. Little else to do until getting a good foot to James Rodriguez's second-half effort. Could do little at second goal either. 6
Mikael Lustig: Made a better fist of dealing with Coman than Gamboa managed in Munich, and always tried to get forward in support of the attack too. Linked up well with Forrest and put in a huge amount of running. 7
Dedryck Boyata: Commanding presence early on before blotting his copybook in hugely costly fashion by allowing Ulreich's long ball to travel through to Coman for the opener. Should have headed ball clear and asked questions later. Steadied himself afterwards. 5

Nir Bitton: Composed presence at the back and dealt with what danger came his way. Good passing from defence too, and wasn't averse to come charging downfield to exert pressure effectively in second half. Outjumped for Bayern's second by Martinez, but overall a good display. 7
Kieran Tierney: Pumped up fresh from signing his new deal, the full-back came bursting out of the traps and set the tone for Celtic by leaving Vidal crumpled on the turf to set McGregor away. Stood up well to the wonderfully gifted Robben. 8
Scott Brown: Intriguing and at times bruising battle with Vidal in the centre of the park, with the Celtic skipper giving no quarter. Aggression almost bubbled over a couple of times, but Brown ultimately stamped his authority on the game. 7
Stuart Armstrong: Had a good early chance but just failed to anticipate the flight of McGregor's ball, before lovely link-up with Dembele almost laid a goal on a plate for the Frenchman. Decent showing all-in-all before making way for Griffiths late on. 7

James Forrest: Celtic's star man. Wonderfully positive showing, full of direct running, pace and trickery. Always looked the likeliest to create something and so it proved, with his clever flick playing in McGregor to equalise. 9
Callum McGregor: Showed nice feet and a willingness to take the ball in tight central areas in a bid to make things happen for Celtic. Then, when his big chance arrived, he kept his cool to slot home through Ulreich's legs to send Celtic Park wild. 8
Scott Sinclair: Unusually quiet showing from last season's player of the year, not getting on the ball nearly enough and struggling to create when he did. A rare off night from the winger and no surprise to see him substituted in the second half. 5
Moussa Dembele: Given the nod ahead of Griffiths and led the line well. Great example of his power early on as he burst past Boateng and got a shot away, but feeding off scraps for the most part after the break. 6
SUBSTITUTES
Tom Rogic: On for Sinclair with just under half an hour to go and tried to support of Dembele and Griffiths well late on. 4
Leigh Griffiths: On to try and salvage something after Bayern's second, and tried manfully to do so, but little time to make much of an impact. 3
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
