MOTHERWELL are facing the prospect of being without manager Stephen Robinson for their first cup final in six years.

The Well boss is poised to be hit with a complaint from the SFA's compliance officer over an incident in Sunday's Betfred Cup semi-final with Rangers.

A heated exchange with Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha saw the Northern Irishman ordered from his technical area and into the stand by Steven McLean after tempers flared on the back of Ryan Bowman's collision with Fabio Cardoso.

Robinson has been sent to the stand previously during his time in Scotland - once in 2015 and again the following year - when previously assistant at Fir Park, and SportTimes now understands a summons to appear in front of a disciplinary panel is imminent.

If the complaint against him is upheld, it's likely Robinson will remain in the stand for the showpiece game on November 26 against Celtic with deputy Keith Lasley in the dugout.

While the Motherwell manager's looks set to appear in front of the SFA, striker Ryan Bowman will not be punished for the incident with Cardoso.

Bowman infuriated Rangers manager Caixinha when his elbow caught the Portuguese defender in the face, breaking his nose in the process.

But even though Rangers' Bruno Alves being served with a complaint for kicking out at Louis Moult, we understand the flashpoint between Bowman and Cardoso was viewed as reckless and not serious foul play, meaning no further action will be taken.
