PAUL McGowan has revealed the Dundee players are relishing Neil McCann’s attack-minded approach to games in the wake of their narrow loss to Celtic, writes Matthew Lindsay.
The Dens Park club were only denied a point at Parkhead on Saturday by an exceptional goalkeeping performance by Dorus de Vries.
The Dutchman pulled off outstanding saves from McGowan, Roarie Deacon and Faissal El-Bakhtaoui in the second half to ensure Brendan Rodgers’s side won 1-0.
But the midfielder was proud of how the visitors performed and admitted they were responding positively to manager McCann’s tactics.
“The gaffer wants us to play and I love it,” he said. “It’s the way to play. Yes we are going to get caught in possession now and again, but it’s part and parcel of trying to do it.
“You can say it’s a bit iffy at times, but it worked for us at Celtic. They might not have been at full strength, but we gave them a game and they can count themselves lucky to win.
“The fans will be on the edge of their seats, but it’s the way to go. We will lose goals by it, but as the gaffer says, that’s on me. He wants us to do it.
“We are starting to gel. There are a lot of new recruits and we are starting to look like a really good team.
“The manager wants no fear. We will make mistakes, but he says he’ll take the flak, he’ll deal with it. That’s great for the young boys.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
