LEE McCULLOCH, the Kilmarnock interim manager, has tipped Kris Boyd for a Scotland recall. The 33 year-old earned the last of his 18 caps against Liechtenstein in September 2010 but is enjoying a purple patch at club level, scoring five goals in his last nine games as Kilmarnock close in on a place in the top six with three games to go until the split.

Gordon Strachan has tried various options at centre forward during the current campaign – starting Steven Fletcher, Chris Martin or Leigh Griffiths in different matches – and McCulloch felt the Scotland manager could do worse than consider calling on Boyd for the qualifier against England at Hampden in June.

“I don’t see why Kris shouldn’t get a Scotland recall,” he said of his former Rangers team-mate. “He’s banging in the goals, he’s playing every week and he’s Scottish so I don’t see why he shouldn’t be considered.”
