Dunfermline striker Michael Moffat insists the Pars aim to do their utmost to delay Hibs’ march towards the Championship title.
The Fife side still has work to do itself to confirm its place in the second tier for next season, with ninth-place Ayr Untied only four points further back.
Neil Lennon’s side today make the short journey across the Forth hoping to extend their 10-point lead at the summit, but experienced marksman Moffat insist there is no chance that Allan Johnston’s side will make life easy for the league leaders.
Moffat, who played in last weekend’s victory over promotion hopefuls Morton, said: “I think they need a few more wins and that will be it over. They’ve got a nice gap at the moment.
“They will want to get it wrapped up as quickly as they can, they’ll get more nervous the longer it takes.
“But we’ll go in with confidence that we can take something from the game.
“You don’t want anyone coming here and winning at any time, but you don’t want a team to come here and win when they’ve got the league to go for as well.
“They’ll be playing with a lot of confidence but the game against Morton the other night might have taken a lot out of them so hopefully we can build on Saturday’s performance and go on a wee run for the rest of the season.”
Dunfermline have not made life easy for Hibs this season even though they are still searching for their first win over Lennon’s side.
They were aggrieved they did not come away with a victory in last month’s spirited performance at Easter Road.
The visitors fought back to level terms having been two-nil down after just 24 minutes.
But the Pars were denied all three points by the woodwork and a string of fine saves from Hibs goalkeeper Ofir Marciano.
And Moffat reckons the East End Park outfit deserve more than what they have taken from the two defeats and one draw.
He added: “We’ve played really well in the away games against Hibs.
“In the second game of the season we got it back one-each and we looked like the team that was going to win the game. But we made a mistake and got punished.
“They probably deserved it when they won 3-1 here but we should have won in the last game at Easter Road last month, we showed great character having been two-nil down.
“We came back to get a draw but we were disappointed we didn’t get the win because their keeper has made two or three great saves and we’ve hit the post and the bar.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
