FORMER Hearts, Kilmarnock and Raith Rovers boss Gary Locke has been appointed as the new manager of Cowdenbeath.

Locke was sacked by Rovers in February following a run of 14 games without a win for the Championship side and has now been tasked with saving the Blue Brazil's season.

Cowdenbeath currently sit rooted to the foot of the League Two table, seven points adrift of ninth-placed Edinburgh City.

The club announced on Friday that Locke would take charge of the team after tomorrow's league game against Berwick Rangers as he looks to finalise his coaching team.

A club statement added: "We ask all fans to give Gary a very warm welcome to Central Park and their full support as we face the major challenge that lies ahead in the next couple of months.

"We do believe that this is a point in time that everyone with Cowden at heart really needs to come together and focus on backing our Club over the remaining games of the season.

"Please get behind Gary and the team and let’s see what we can achieve."
