RANGERS defender Rob Kiernan is out of the Old Firm game having failed in his appeal against a red card.

The Englishman was sent off for a tackle on St Johnstone's Graham Cummins during his side's 3-2 Scottish Ladbrokes Premiership win over St Johnstone on March 1.

A straight red for serious foul play meant Kiernan would automatically miss the following two games; however, the appeal allowed him to play against Hamilton last week in the Scottish Cup.

But today (Thursday) at Hampden Park an independent panel upheld the original decision. Kiernan will miss this Sunday's match at Celtic Park and the Hamilton league game next weekend.

Rangers interim manager Graeme Murty was already without striker Joe Garner who is also suspended. Clint Hill and Danny Wilson look likely to be the central defensive paring for the derby.
