CARLA BORREGO, 33, plays GS and GA for Sirens. She won bronze with Jamaica at the 2003 World Championships before playing in Australia for Adelaide Thunderbirds from 2010-2016.

Sirens play Manchester Thunder tomorrow (Saturday 4th) at 5pm in Manchester.

It’s been a mixed start to our season – a defeat in our first match against Wasps was disappointing but then we got our first win against Celtic Dragons last weekend which was great.

In our first match, we knew we were up against really tough opposition but I think that we have a team which can compete better than we did last week.

We need to be more consistent if we’re going to get a result against a team like Wasps who are one of the favourites for the title.

To bounce back and get a win last weekend was good – it was overdue and it was excellent for our confidence to get that result.

We can’t get ahead of ourselves though because we’ll have tougher games than that as the season progresses.

But it was good to get a convincing victory and send a message to the rest of the teams that we’re here to win. Going forward though, we know what we need to work on and we’re going to put our best foot forward.

I’ve only been in Scotland for a couple of months so far but I love it already. The people here are amazing and everyone is so supportive.

If you look at the crowd we had at our first match, to get 4,000 people there was unbelievable and it’s such a privilege to be a part of what Sirens are doing.

I have to admit that the level of support we have has taken me by surprise – I really wasn’t expecting such a massive crowd because I know that netball isn’t a huge sport in Scotland.

The volunteers have to take a lot of credit because they have made this all happen for us and they made it such a special occasion at the Emirates last week.

I came to Scotland because I was looking for a change. Australia was great for me but I wanted a new challenge and I felt like Sirens was exactly that.

I felt like there was still more for me to learn and I know that Sirens’ Head Coach, Gail Parata, is a very knowledgeable coach so moving to the UK was a great opportunity for me.

It is very different to playing in Jamaica and Australia but what is so great is the support we’ve got, they’ll be behind us no matter what.

Our match tomorrow against Manchester Thunder will be tough because they’re a strong team but we’re going there to win – we’re never going to expect anything less than that. We’re just going to take this season one game at a time but we’re feeling good.
