Glasgow Rocks coach Sterling Davis claims tomorrow’s trip to Newcastle Eagles is a must-win for his team’s BBL title hopes but also a golden chance to finally break the club’s longest hoodoo.

The in-form Scots sit just four points behind their second-placed rivals with a game in hand following six victories out of eight since losing to the Tyneside outfit in January’s Cup final.

That reverse made it 18 consecutive defeats to Newcastle over a five-year span but the Rocks current momentum, Davis insists, gives him hope of delivering a vital result.

“Every game that we’ve played for the last six weeks has been a benchmark game for us. We know how tight things are – we know how long the winning run that Newcastle have had against us. But this is our next best chance for us to end that because we’re going in playing good basketball right now.

“And every game we’re playing right now is a big game. Last week. The week before. They mean so much because we want to stay in the title hunt.”

Rocks captain Kieron Achara has been named as the BBL Player of the Month for February with the Stirling-born forward averaging 18.6 points, seven rebounds and two blocks per game.
