SCOTLAND centre Alex Dunbar has signed a new contract with Glasgow Warriors until 2019.
The 26-year-old is a product of the Warriors youth system and penned his first professional deal with the club in 2010.
Dunbar has scored 12 tries in 94 appearances for the Scotstoun outfit and has become a regular in the Scotland midfield under Vern Cotter, racking up 19 caps since his debut in 2013.
“Glasgow Warriors is a great club and I’m really enjoying my rugby just now, so it was an easy decision when it came around," Dunbar said.
“Over the last few years I’ve started to get regular game-time and hopefully we can keep improving.
“It was a great day down in Leicester, with the smiles on the boys faces and the buzz around the club and it’s been great over the last couple of months, so hopefully we can continue that going forward.
“A lot of the senior boys and a lot of the internationalists are staying and obviously with Dave Rennie coming in and Jason (O’Halloran) and Jonathan (Humphreys) coming across the boys are really excited about building towards next year."
Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend added: “It’s great news that Alex will be staying in Glasgow for at least another two years.
"He has worked hard to improve his game - and has come back from some untimely injuries - to become an important player for the club.
"His ability to play equally well at 12 and 13 has enabled him to strike up effective partnerships with the other centres we have in our squad.
“This is another boost for us, with a number of players having already signed up beyond this season.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
