Glasgow Academy emerged winners of the city derby match against Glasgow High School on Saturday with a 31-0 victory over the Old Anniesland side from tries by Rhuraidh Hood, Ryan Sweeney, Jack McCready and skipper Nick Sutherland.
Elsewhere in the White Conference St Aloysius College produced three tries from driven line-outs all credited to Steven Consindine to defeat Kelvinside Academy while on the south side of the city Hutchesons’ Grammar School came close to toppling George Heriot’s School, the match settled in the final minute with an individual try for the Edinburgh school by centre Cameron Hutchison for a 19-15 win.
For Hutchesons’ flanker Kasini Ali and wing Rory Dickson scored tries, the remainder of the points coming from Chris Hyde who kicked a conversion and a penalty.
In the Scottish Schools under 18 Plate Marr College safely negotiated the first round with a 24-10 win over Jordanhill School but similar progress was not made by Carrick Academy who lost 24-10 to a strong Dunbar Grammar School side. Tomorrow (Wed) in the under-18 Plate St Columba’s face Peebles High School.
Meanwhile in youth rugby Ayr maintained their lead in the President’s Conference at under-18 lead after achieving a 8-7 win over Highland at Millbrae on Saturday. Highland with a try from Charlie Wilson converted by Ben Rennie led until late in the game when Ayr’s centre Paddy Dewhurst kicked the winning penalty goal, adding to his try earlier in the match.
Just one point behind Ayr are Stirling County, who have a game in hand. County kept their unbeaten record this season with a sumptuous 64-5 win over Boroughmuir on Saturday. Prop Ross Dunbar scored a brace of tries, the other Stirling touchdowns coming from flanker Murray Anderson, centres James Gibson and Andrew McLean, number 8 Harry Henderson, second rows Ross Bundy and Josh Cooney, winger Cameron Hill and full back Logan Trotter who landed seven conversions.
