Glasgow Rocks coach Sterling Davis still believes he has the right pieces in place to solve any puzzle presented but the American may yet ponder whether to rearrange and seek an alternative perspective after seeing Plymouth Raiders snatch a 76-75 victory in the British Basketball League last night that already leaves the Scots title ambitions hanging by the slenderest of threads.

Fresh from defeating Bristol Flyers 67-58 on Saturday, Davis had hoped for a double success that might have pushed Glasgow into the top four. Instead, they languish in eighth place following an all-too-familiar slide into the abyss that occurred when the stakes where at their highest. It was left to the Raiders Daryl Corletto to hit a dramatic three-pointer that ultimately earned his side’s maiden win of a woeful campaign so far. With 16 seconds left, there was time to repair that damage but opportunity fatally, went unconverted.

“We gave them the confidence to get that win,” Davis said. “We should have never have put ourselves in that position. We got off to a slow start, came back and then let it slide. Corletto made a tough shot. He was guarded in the corner but he knocked it down. But that wasn’t where we lost it.

“We’re still learning as a team and trying to figure out how to be consistent. We need to find a way to do that from one game to the next. I keep telling the guys not to be afraid to be good but they have to remember that.”

The Devon outfit surged as much as 14 ahead in the second quarter and held a 47-39 advantage at half-time. However Will Hall completed an 8-0 run from the visitors that pushed them 69-63 clear in the third. As momentum swung back and forth in the fourth, Warren Gillies - who had a game-high 20 points - put Glasgow in front with 73 seconds remaining but the American guard saw his last-gasp attempt at redemption fall short.

Elsewhere, Bristol rebounded to beat Surrey Scorches 80-72 yesterday.
