BRAEHEAD CLAN have ruled out a swoop for former favourite Derek Roehl.
The 27-year-old American was a massive hit last campaign in purple following his switch west from Fife Flyers, hitting 19 goals and 24 assists in 60 games.
It appeared throughout the summer that the former Fort Wayne Comet was poised for a second term in Glasgow, however it transpired that Italy was the destination for the man with an Italian passport with him being snapped up by Valpellice.
Roehl’s spell with the club just outside of Turin was ultimately cut short and he was released after just playing three games.
SportTimes can reveal Clan bosses had held discussions with the centre about a possible return to Scotland.
However, any plans to bring him back to Clyde side have been put on hold.
Braehead hockey director Gareth Chalmers said: “We’ve been contacted by Derek regarding a return to the Clan following his release in Italy, however right now we don’t have an available roster spot for him.”
Meanwhile, Clan forward Scott Pitt is a man on a mission for goals this weekend when the Belfast Giants come to town.
The Canadian shot 32 during his maiden season for Braehead last season, but has only found the back of the net five times so far this campaign.
Ryan Finnerty’s side’s struggle to convert their chances has been highlighted as one of the main factors behind their sticky domestic start, and former AHL man Pitt is keen to make amends.
He said: “It’s definitely been up and down kind of season for us, speaking as a forward player and while we’re getting tons of chances, we’re just not putting them away.
“You like to have a little consistency in each game and we’re not really getting that right now. It’s definitely frustrating and as long as we keep plugging away, then that will change.
“I’ve got no worries in how we play in Ryan’s systems and everything will come together for us.”
Pitt added: “Looking ahead, it’s always nice to play at home and we always miss them whenever we’re away so that’ll give us a huge boost for the game on Saturday.
“Belfast always have a strong team and will come looking to take some big away points from us, so it’ll definitely be a massive challenge for us.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
