Mathias Pogba says that Partick Thistle’s draw against Hamilton at Firhill on Saturday left the players feeling as if they had just been on the end of a defeat.
Pogba got his first goal for Thistle when he poked home from close range just after the hour to give his side the lead in a closely fought encounter.
Despite being down to ten men though after the dismissal of Lucas Tagliapietra in first-half stoppage time, Hamilton hit back through Dougie Imrie to claim a deserved draw.
“For me, this is a defeat after they go down to ten men and we are controlling the game,” Pogba said.
“Drawing this game, for me, feels like a defeat.
“It was definitely nice to score my first goal for the club but I was disappointed with the result.
“When we are playing against ten men we should control the game and have an easy victory. It's just disappointing for everyone.
“We need to bounce back from today and train hard this week and hopefully take three points next week.
“I'm happy but I'm not happy. Today was not good, definitely. Even though I scored, I'm not happy.”
Pogba spoke of his frustration after the match as he was forced to feed on scraps for most of the afternoon.
He insisted though that more goals will come when he and his teammates gain a greater understanding of each other’s style of play, and when he is finally 100% fit.
“The manager was saying to us in the changing room to play forward quickly,” he said.
“Sometimes they don't and the chances are gone. It is what it is, there's nothing I can do. It's very frustrating for me as a striker and for the team after today.
“I definitely believe I'll get goals with service. The type of striker I am, I need crosses, I need balls in the box. If they do this, I'll definitely score more goals.
“I speak to my teammates about it every day! Every day I try my best - in training, before games, at half time, every time.
“In some games they deliver and sometimes I'm not in the right place. In some games they should as I might be in the right place. It depends. The best for me is to deliver as fast as you can.
“I’m getting fitter and I'm happy with this. I'm at 80 per cent, the next game 100 per cent!”
Thistle boss Alan Archibald was naturally disappointed his side were unable to see out the match against 10 men and claim all three points.
But he was pleased to see Pogba open his scoring account for the Jags.
He said: "I was delighted for Pogs. He didn't get a lot of service and, hopefully, he kicks on.
"He has a big part to play and was great in the past two games. This was actually more of an off day for him, but I'm delighted he scored.
"It wasn't hanging over him, though, because he had only started four games for us."
Thistle goalkeeper Tomas Cerny was forced out of the action in the first half.
Archibald added: "Tomas is in a protective boot at the moment because it's something with his ankle.
"We'll assess him over the next few days and take it from there."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
