The issue of promotion and relegation to and from the Six Nations Championship is not going away.

Argentina’s establishment of themselves as a global power on the back of regular exposure to the Southern Hemisphere’s best, resulting in the Pumas contesting a second World Cup semi-final, has helped encourage those representing Europe’s emerging nations to speak up.

“The success of Georgia and Romania at the Rugby World Cup has drawn focus to the game in Europe and rightly so. We should celebrate them and capitalise on their involvement in the game,” Octavian Morariu, an International Olympic Committee member who is president of Rugby Europe, said this week.

“Rugby Europe is committed to developing an inclusive and competitive game of rugby for all of its member Unions across the continent.”
