During the last World Cup a trip to the town of Masterton led to a meeting with Brian Lochore, a great former All Black captain who had been their head coach at the inaugural World Cup tournament and was their campaign manager in 1995.

It was clear when talking to him that Lochore remains convinced that something untoward happened the night before the final, but that he was also acutely aware that taking into account the very special place that tournament has in sporting history and that any Kiwi complaints about what they may or may not have been fed are seen as a mere footnote alongside the eulogising of the Springbok heroics.

There may be a lesson in that for those Scots who are still complaining about the events of last weekend.
