IAN MURRAY, the St Mirren manager, believes his team and this weekend's opponents are both in a false position after a quarter of their season has come and gone.

Nine games have elapsed for the Paisley club and the sit in the troublesome position of eighth in the Ladbrokes Championship, eight points off a promotion play-off place and a just two above bottom-markers Livingston.

It has not quite been the start Murray was hoping for when he took over from Gary Teale in the summer, but the St Mirren manager has seen enough to make him think his team are turning the tide after a choppy start ahead of tomorrow's trip to the Tony Macaroni Arena.

He said: "We have not amassed as many points as we hoped, there is no question of that.

"In some games we have been very good and our away form has been excellent but our home form has been poor. We are in a position we probably don't feel is fair or don't deserve to be in but that is where we are.

"It has been a mixed bag for us but on the flip-side we are not too far behind Falkirk who have made a good start, Queen of the South and Raith Rovers.

"There is plenty of time but we know we can't keep going like that.

"Livingston have shown us twice already this season how good they can be and for me, are Livingston the worst team in the league? Not at the moment so perhaps they feel they are in a false position."
