DAVID WEIR is confident Rangers can find a way to combat a more defensive approach from their Championship rivals as they look to maintain their second tier winning streak.
The Light Blues made it nine wins from nine league games with victory over Falkirk earlier this month as they rounded off the first quarter of the campaign with a maximum 27 points.
Mark Warburton’s side have hit the goal trail so far this term as they have turned in a series of impressive performances but have seen some teams adopt different tactics in a bid to halt them in their tracks.
Rangers will return to action on Saturday when they host Queen of the South aiming to maintain the momentum ahead of crucial league outings against St Mirren and Hibernian.
And assistant manager Weir knows his side will have to be at their best to break teams down if they are to keep their winning run going.
He said: “Teams are trying to stop us and to make it more difficult for us, which you would expect.
“Maybe at the start there was less of a fear of Rangers with regards to opening up and having a go, while recently we’ve seen teams sit back and try to hit us on the counter attack.
“It’s a different challenge for us and something we have to address, but everyone wants to beat Rangers – that’s always been the case – and particularly now as everyone wants to be the first to beat us.
“That goes with the territory of being here, and it’s a challenge we enjoy.”
After edging out the Bairns in an entertaining Ibrox clash a fortnight ago, boss Warburton gave his squad some time off during the international break as they were given a chance to recuperate after 13 wins from their opening 14 matches this term.
And Weir is pleased with how his Ibrox stars have picked up where they left off as attentions turn to the Doonhamers clash this weekend.
“The team trained really well after they came back in, and credit to them for that,” he told rangers.co.uk
“They earned their time off, got away and had a break and have come back refreshed.
“We spoke to them before training yesterday to remind them that it’s important for us to get straight back into it today and to get back up and running.
“We have some really important games coming up, and they are already back on track with their focus for regards to winning football games.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
