Away days do not come much better for Livingston. A 3-0 victory at Alloa not only gave them their first league win of the season but it also hoisted them off the bottom of the table.
Ben Gordon gave Alloa an early warning that former players have a knack of returning to haunt their previous employers with an early effort that was well saved by David Crawford.
But it was another ex-player who inflicted the damage, Liam Buchanan scoring twice to send Alloa to the foot of the league.
Alloa had their chances in this game, Michael Chopra checked how closely Livingston's on-loan goalkeeper Marc McCallum was following proceedings with an effort from fully 30 yards. The goalkeeper proved equal to it.
But it was Livingston who took the lead midway through the first half when Jordyn Sheerin was allowed to gallop unfettered into the Alloa half and lay the ball off for the ever-dangerous Buchanan to apply the finish.
Connor McManus had a chance to level the scores before half-time after good work from Chopra but he rushed his shot and Livingston survived.
Chopra tried to catch Livingston off-guard with a quickly taken free-kick five minutes from the break but McCallum was alert to the situation.
Alloa came even closer on the stroke of half-time when Mikk Reintam's header beat McCallum but Jackson Longridge cleared off the line.
Sheerin made it 2-0 with an emphatic shot into the roof of the net from Ross Millen's pass after an hour and Buchanan collected his second goal of the game with 14 minutes left to complete a pleasant outing.
Raith Rovers have moved almost unnoticed into joint-second place in the table after a narrow 1-0 home win over Dumbarton.
Their challenge is built on an unblemished home record, this victory being their sixth out of six in all competitions this season on their own turf.
Not that Dumbarton paid too much heed to it as they approached the game with some relish.
Garry Fleming and Willie Gibson both saw a lot of the ball in the first half and Eamonn Brophy, their striker, was given some useful service.
Brophy came close with a low shot which slipped narrowly wide of Kevin Cuthbert's goal.
Inevitably, Raith responded and created chances of their own before half-time.
Craig Wighton just failed to connect with Mark Stewart's cross before Stewart himself was denied by Frazer Wright's goal-line clearance.
James Craigen came close for Raith with a 20-yard free-kick at the start of the second half before Dumbarton's Kevin Cawley headed narrowly over at the other end.
The only goal arrived in the 56th minute when Lewis Toshney headed home after a header from Kyle Benedictus header had rebounded from the crossbar.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
