Martin Canning says that the feel-good factor around Hamilton since their derby win over Motherwell can propel them to victory at Kilmarnock.

Whilst the Accies manager has played down the significance of the opposition defeated last week, he admits the atmosphere around New Douglas Park has been lifted by the win.

“It’s great to win any game but to win a derby game is obviously a bit more special, so in terms of the atmosphere around the place it’s been a good week and hopefully we can build on it,” he said.

“It’s always nice to come into your work after a victory. In terms of our form I think we’ve done pretty well overall this season, so we hope we can continue that and it’s been a nice week off the back of the win.

“I know it’s a derby game and it means a lot to the fans, but we don’t look at it that way, for us it’s just another game that we had to try to go and win.

“We prepared the exact same way that we do for any other game, and fortunately for us at the minute, the results against Motherwell seem to be going in our favour.”

Canning is wary of the threat posed by a Kilmarnock side who have found form in their last two league matches after a poor start to the season.

By approaching it in the same manner they approached the Lanarkshire derby though, he is sure that Accies can claim maximum points.

“It’s a massive game for us on Saturday, the biggest game of the season, because it’s our next game,” he said.

“They’re coming into it off the back of two league wins as well so I’m pretty sure they’ll be confident as well going into the game on Saturday.

“It’s a home game for them and they’ll be going all out to win the match as well, so we know it will be a hard game but one that if we prepare for properly and approach in the right way that we can win.”
