Ross Forbes says he has nothing to prove to Motherwell as he prepares to take on his old club with Morton at Cappielow tonight.
Forbes came through the ranks at Fir Park and had an explosive impact at the start of the 2009/10 season, netting spectacular strikes against the likes of Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League.
After those highs his career with the Steelmen rather fizzled out, but he insists his only focus tonight is helping Morton into the next round of the League Cup against the off-form Premiership outfit.
“I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
“There’s always a chance of an upset, regardless of how Motherwell are playing, and we’ll not be taking them lightly.
“They’re always capable of playing well. They’ve not had a great start but I’m sure they will turn it around eventually.
“Guys I played with like Stevie Hammell and Keith Lasley have obvious quality, but every player in their team are quality players, not just those two.
“There’s loads more and we’ll have to be at our best to win the match.
“I really enjoyed my time there and did well in spells. Like everything else in football though, you just have to move on and it happens everywhere, so I don’t think I’ve got anything to prove.
“It would be nice to play well though and get the victory obviously.
“We’ve had a really good start only losing one game in the league. The teams playing well, although we’ve had a few draws and haven’t been getting that wee bit of luck in front of goal or it could have been even better.
“We always believed we could go and compete and the gaffer has signed a few good players as well, so that has enhanced the squad.
“This is where we want to be and everybody is right up for it, so you can see that in every game and that’s how we approach it.
“It’s a tight pitch at Cappielow and it suits us, teams might not like it but that’s to our advantage.
“We’ve played well in every game so far in the league, even at Easter Road we had chances and might have got something, so we’ll be full of confidence going into the game.
“When I was there though I know that they took every game in the cups, whether it was against lower league opposition or not, just as seriously as any league game.
“You always want to go as far as you can in any cup competition, so we know they won’t be taking us lightly.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
