AS surprises go, it was hardly in the Japanese class but try telling that to the Melrose supporters who watched their side surrender a commanding lead to allow Boroughmuir to pull off a 34-25 success at the Greenyards.

Tries in the last seven minutes from Jack Cosgrove and Chris Laidlaw stunned the Borderers, who had racked up three scores in the first quarter. Laidlaw completed a fine all-round display by slotting four conversions and two penalties.

Glasgow Hawks made it two wins on the trot as they snuffed out the challenge of Stirling County by 25-15 on their own patch.
