Speculation is rife that Bromac Kelburne`s 11 year momopoly of the league title is coming to an end following last weekend`s home defeat by Grove Menziehill, but player/coach Iain Scholefield has it in hand to quash such idle talk. Scholefield admitted that his charges did not play to the expected level against Menzieshill, now he aims to raise the standard for this weekend`s double header away to Gordonians and Uddingston.

"Last weekend`s game will serve as a good wake up call for the team," said Scholefield. "We are targeting two wins, it will not be easy but the squad know the areas we need to improve on, and after a good week`s training I have full confidence in the team to react in a positive fashion."

There is no shortage of confidence exuding from PSL Team Sports Clydesdale captain Andrew Allan as the Titwood club prepare for their games against Grange and Dundee Wanderers.

"Grange will be a tough side to beat, especially away from home, but I see no reason why we can`t go through to Edinburgh and take something from the game," said Allan.

In the opening game of last season Clydesdale shocked the ultimate champions with a fighting 3-1 win at Titwood, but inconsistency in later games proved Clydesdale`s final undoing and they finished in fifth place.

Clydesdale might still remain dark horses for a coveted top four place, but the early shoots are perhaps there. They are a young side gaining experience with every game according to Allan, former Great Britain Olympian Graham Dunlop has been recruited as player/coach and the Titwood side beat Uddingston 3-0 in the opening fixture. Grange coach Colin Clarke is also wary of the Clydesdale potential and said: "I expect them to push us in search of victory."

Dundee Wanderers on Sunday might seem an easier assignbment on paper, the Taysiders only avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth in the last two seasons, nevertheless Allan claims they are never an easy team to play. "Wanderers are well organised and a difficult team to break down, but we took six points from the two games last season and we`ll be hoping to do the same again this year."
