ATHLETICS legend Haile Gebrselassie who said he was retiring after his last race in Britain, earlier this year, seems unable to let go. He will appear in the Great Scottish 10K in Glasgow on October 4.

The 42-year-old Ethiopian, who has won two Olympic golds and eight world titles, previously broke the world record for the distance in 2002, one of 27 global marks at 17 different distances.

Two years ago, the veteran won the half-marathon in Glasgow in an over-40 world best but will now call it quits to focus on his business career in Africa.

“It will be quite an emotional day for me as I say farewell to competitive running,” he said. “Returning to this year’s event is a great opportunity for me to say thank you to the people of Glasgow by running the 10k.”
