FORMER Celtic star Virgil van Dijk's Southampton debut was described as "perfect" by his new manager Ronald Koeman.

The Saints drew with West Brom 0-0 with the £13million signing a stand-out in the heart of defence.

While Van Dijk enjoyed a fine start to his career in England, his former club certainly missed him as they went down 2-1 at Aberdeen.

The Dutchman strolled through his Premier League baptism and Koeman said: “I’m very pleased with him. Virgil was very impressive.

"He was very strong in defence and very comfortable on the ball. It’s a great signing and will make the team stronger. I thought he put in a perfect performance.”
