New Motherwell signing Theo Robinson says that he is hoping to become the all-round frontman - after copying the traits of the world’s best strikers.

The Jamaican international forward has signed on at Fir Park until the end of the season, and made his debut as a second-half substitute against Kilmarnock.

Whilst not comparing himself to the greats of the game, he insists that what he has learnt from them can help him plunder goals in the Scottish Premiership.

"I admired a lot of strikers when I was younger,” he said.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is everybody's hero and Didier Drogba was another who I liked because he was more of a targetman and I learned what positions to take up.

"Ian Wright was another great striker and he was a late developer to the game.

"I looked at every striker really and tried to learn things from them but those are the main ones.

"I just want to become a better footballer in every aspect of my game and add things to it if I can.

"I want to play as much as possible as I haven't really played in the last season or so.

"My aim is to score goals for Motherwell. This is a fresh challenge and start for me and it is something different.

"I'm a striker and I want to score goals when I play and get my confidence levels up.

"It's been a bit up and down in the past couple of years and I want to make up for lost time.

"In the past I have been played out of position and I did it because you want to play football. As a striker I just want to play up front and score goals.”

The 26-year-old former Derby County and Huddersfield Town striker comes to Lanarkshire with a decent pedigree, and he revealed some advice from teammates past and present led to him making the move to Scotland.

"I spoke to Chris Humphrey and Craig Bryson as well as Lionel Ainsworth who is a good friend," he said.

"They have all experienced playing in Scotland and they told me that it was a good thing to come up and do. Lionel said it was a good club and a good league.

"The manager sorted the move out and he was a big influence on me coming here so I'd like to repay his faith in me by scoring some goals for Motherwell.”
