Dan Travers, the former Scottish badminton player and national coach, has been appointed president of Badminton Scotland.

A Commonwealth Games gold medallist in 1986, the man who previously served as vice-president has now taken the prestigious post at the sport's national body following a host of new appointments.

Travers, who was crowned world senior singles champion in 2013, will stay in the role for two years.

He said: "It promises to be an exciting two years as Badminton Scotland counts down to the TOTAL BWF World Championships to be held in Glasgow's Emirates Arena in 2017."

Elsewhere in the election at Badminton Scotland's annual meeting at the weekend, solicitor advocate Ronnie Conway was voted in as the first ever chairman of the organisation, with him serving a four-year tenure.

"I am honoured and thrilled to be the first ever Chairperson of Badminton Scotland," he said. "I am committed to working with all our members, our professional staff and our stakeholders to take this already very successful organisation forward."

Anne Smillie, the organisation's chief executive, added: "We have now entered a vital new four-year funding cycle for Scottish badminton, especially with the year-long Olympic qualifying period having just started last Monday.

"I am delighted that Ronnie Conway has agreed to be our first Chairperson as he was part of the bidding team that secured the 2017 World Championships for Glasgow and his insight and involvement will be invaluable over the next four years, just as it has been during his Presidency.

"I am also looking forward to new President Dan Travers' input as no-one is more passionate about Scottish badminton at all levels."
