Celtic last night agreed a deal to sign winger Michael Duffy, a Northern Ireland Under-21 internationalist, from Derry City.

The 20-year-old has been on trial with the SPFL Premiership champions on two separate occasions and is expected to agree personal terms before the transfer window closes on Monday evening.

"We have agreed a deal with Celtic for Michael Duffy," said the Derry City chief executive, Sean Barrett.

"We thought it was dead in the water, but Celtic then contacted us to say they wanted to sign him.

"I believe Michael is discussing personal terms."
