We’re Scotland’s leading broadsheet. Each day, our teams of specialist writers, columnists and experts explore in depth the challenges Scotland faces.
Now, The Herald is offering discounted rates on our monthly and annual Premium Plus subscriptions.
While many readers are already part of our digital family, we want to keep growing that number.
You can now sign up for a month-long subscription to The Herald for just £1 – and if you like what you’re seeing, you can stay with us for £9.99 a month.
On our annual offer, you can currently save more than 50%, paying just £57 for the first year and then £114.99 after.

And there’s no better time to sign up, with the launch of The Herald’s major new series on Scotland’s Future this week.
First up, we will look at the country’s relationship with the European Union. As the year progresses, we will look at oil and gas, transport, health, social care and defence and more.
These will be in-depth pieces from respected voices, beyond the usual hit and run of the news cycle, because we see part of our mission as giving the nation the space to debate these important issues.
We will also be hosting a virtual roundtable discussion for subscribers with Brian Taylor. It will be your chance to quiz the experts.

But that’s just the start. Each day, our teams of specialist writers, columnists and experts explore in depth the challenges Scotland faces. We are not here to tell you what to think, or to push a political agenda. We are not tied to any party or position. We are here to provide a platform for honest, sometimes passionate, debate.
Our politics teams, led by Tom Gordon in Holyrood, and Hannah Rodger in Westminster, give you unrivalled insight into what our elected representatives are up to – and why. On health, Helen McArdle explains what the blizzard of figures around Covid means and we lead the way on coverage of education, business and sport.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
