People have been donating to leave abusive messages on Matt Hancock's charity fundraising page as he takes on the London Marathon.

The former disgraced health secretary has set up a JustGiving page in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care based in his West Suffolk consituencey.

The MP has kept a relatively low profile since he resigned as Health Secretary after admitting to breaking coronavirus rules in June.

Leaked CCTV showed him kissing an aide in his departmental office.

But in a faux pas he posted online a link to his fundraising page for the run in October and many have taken the opportunity to donate a small amount to send an insulting message.

Many of the comments were left under a pseudonym name such as "Rishni Sunak", "Martha Hancock" and "Jim Saville" in the brutal trolling.

The offensive messages have now been removed but the fundriaisng total now stands at £3,173.

The JustGiving page states: "I’ve decided to run the 2021 London Marathon in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.

"St Nicholas Hospice Care is a fantastic charity working in my constituency of West Suffolk, who look to give help, support and advice to those who are living with long-term and life-threatening illnesses.

"The Hospice sees around 2000 people each year and any money donated will makes a real difference to people's lives.

"This is my first London Marathon and I'm really excited to take part and raise money for St Nicholas Hospice Care. I have already started my training and hope to keep you all updated with my progress."
