CAROLE Ewart ("Time for action on Freedom of Information", Agenda, The Herald, November) hits the nail on the head.

No wonder there are more than 74,000 Freedom of Information (FoI) requests each year.

Very few public bodies have heeded the advice of the previous Scottish Information Commissioner and moved to make information available proactively. So basic routine information (for example, on planning applications) is treated as "sensitive" and hidden.

This Scottish Government doesn't seem at all keen on transparency.
