SOUTH Lanarkshire Council is not run by a Labour minority administration (“Labour backing coalition with Tories, says SNP”, The Herald, April 1). There are 38 Labour councillors out of 67.

Apart from the first year of multi-member wards in 2007, Labour has always had a majority. As for a strategy of winning seats, why would it field three candidates in Ward 20, Larkhall, when it has no chance of winning three? In Ward 10, East Kilbride East, it de-selected the only blind councillor in Scotland. John Cairney is standing as an Independent and so Labour may not have any seat in that Ward as it decided only to field one candidate.
