While it's true that we are the world's longest-running active protest site and we have been here since 1982, we are by no means ready to "call it a day" (Is this the end of the Faslane Peace Camp?, News, March 19). We're 35 this year and intend to become stronger and more active than ever.

Yes, some of the caravans are somewhat dilapidated (so would you be if you'd been in situ loch-side for 10-plus years). Yes, there is a lot of rebuilding and maintenance work to be carried out. Yes, we are struggling for money (we are self-funded and run on the strand of a shoestring) and can always use donations. And yes, our back boiler cracked and had to be removed.

However, we are not leaving until Trident is out of Scotland. We have been donated a couple of caravans thanks to some of our supporters, and improvements to the site will be ongoing, both cosmetically and to camp infrastructure. We are exceptionally resourceful people and we have a lot of support around the globe.

We're quite used to being misrepresented in the press but to suggest that we are even thinking of giving up on our campaign to get Trident out of Scotland is ridiculous. In fact, what is happening here at Peace Camp is a renaissance that the current camp crew feel is long overdue.
