SO a private golf club voted to allow female members to join it (“Women golfers celebrate as men-only rule is bunkered”, The Herald, March 15), partly pressurised to do so by The Open Championship ...which won't let women play in it.

Graham McKee,

2/1, 37 Cranworth Street, Glasgow.

THE flexibility and good sense of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers in opening its membership to women members should be acknowledged and already the R&A has re-instated the East Lothian links to its Open Championship list.

With the multi-millions of pounds safeguarded for that lovely part of the country when it next holds The Open the few female members projected over the next six or seven years must be about worth their weight in gold.

Not a bad investment and a clear conscience into the bargain.
