WHILE I welcome the vote in the Scottish Parliament recognising that our government has failed Scottish youngsters (“Swinney in clash over education”, The Herald March 9), I have no hope that any radical improvement will come about as a result.

John Swinney showed once again in his comments following the vote that he has no intention of listening to classroom teachers. He had already made this crystal clear when he failed to appoint a single working maths teacher on the Making Maths Count group charged with improving children's numeracy skills.
