MOST of my formative years having been spent in the west end of Glasgow, I have an abiding affection for the Botanic Gardens. However, I have noticed a creeping tendency to refer to them now as the Botanics. Yes, in Edinburgh they do indeed have their Botanics, but in Glasgow they are the Botanic Gardens. Imagine my concern today when I visited and noticed a sign at the front gates which advertised an event inside which would be held in the Botanics. Come on Glasgow, have some pride and name it properly.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
