ANDREW Beck’s letter (October 22) recommending the creation of a single, world class airport located between Edinburgh and Glasgow is one of the best aviation ideas for Scotland for a long time. This is the type of vision that needs to be adopted and promoted by the Scottish Parliament if the country is to become more relevant for international recognition and competition with London and Dublin.

There are many other similar ways for Scotland to become more significant in world terms. One dear to my heart is the potential to create a competitive, world class business school to compete with Insead, London Business School, Harvard and Stanford. This would require combining the fragmented, sub-scale business schools scattered throughout the central belt, doing wonders for the country and its business standing. Scottish politicians, more big thinking please.
