MANY regular donors to charitable causes would be surprised to note the salary and bonus disclosures of Stuart Earley, chief executive of the SSPCA (“Animal charity chief defends £216,000 pay”, The Herald, October 23). Every employed person is entitled to a fair remuneration, but the figures divulged seem excessive, especially for someone heading up a national charity.

Whilst arguments as to the payments being merited any resolution lies firmly with the recipient, future SSPCA donations could be affected by a decision by Mr Earley to lead by example in making an "in-house" contribution.
