BOB Holman has been fighting against poverty and inequality all his life, and has proved that you don't need to have been born in Glasgow to be a Glaswegian (“Anti-poverty campaigner Holman says he has less than a year to live after muscle disease diagnosis”, The Herald, October 21). Without doubt, everyone whose lives have been touched and enhanced by Mr Holman, and those of us whose consciences have been stirred by him, and who respect his honesty and sincerity, will be wishing him all the very best as he fights Motor Neurone Disease.

I sincerely hope that consideration is being given to awarding Mr Holman the Freedom of Glasgow, not because of his illness, but because of the huge contribution he makes to Glasgow, which deserves to be recognised and honoured.
