Government funding for T in the Park resulted in a great festival at a new venue and a big win for Scotland (T in the Park boss breaks silence, saying row over £150,000 from Scottish Government was politically motivated, News, October 11). The move from Balado was forced because of safety concerns. From some of the frankly hysterical coverage anyone would think that DF Concerts had decided to move on a whim rather than have to leave an established site, incur unknown relocation costs and become amateur ornithologists.

If they were an engineering company wishing to open a factory in Auchterarder there would be A-Z of public sector bodies queuing up to give grants.

When VAT on the ticket sales plus other taxes are included, the amount returned to the public is substantial. Then, there is direct spend in local hotels, shops, restaurants and other trades and services. The £150,000 was money well spent. At the end of the festival who came out ahead? Well, for a start, the ospreys who got a new home, the local community, and the taxpayer. Most importantly though, the music industry in Scotland remained strong, confident and vibrant.

This whole affair reeks of petty jealousy and snobbery.
