JUST possibly, some Herald readers won't be avid readers of the sports pages. But hurry scurry, there could still be time to retrieve last Saturday's edition, featuring medal-winning articles by Hugh MacDonald and Doug Gillon. Mr MacDonald's review of the BBC Alba film on Jim Baxter was itself rich in new phrases, old memories, and real sympathy for the tragic Greek hero frae Hill o' Beath in Fife. Doug Gillon, meanwhile, had us ponder a much-loved wee road relay (born 1934) being cancelled this year after risk assessment … and health and safety issues. Computer games and a soft, sedentary life-style are the bane of health professionals, wrote the former athlete. Something to think about with the Great Scottish Run coming up?
