I note with interest the comments of your correspondents on the Battle of Britain to the effect that 75th anniversary of this conflict was largely ignored in Scotland, while a TV commentator referred to the "Battle of England".

The Air Officer Scotland invited representatives from 602 ( City of Glasgow) Squadron and 603 ( City of Edinburgh ) Squadron, both fighter units in the battle, to join him for dinner at his HQ. Thereafter both parties were his Guests at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo where the theme was The Battle of Britain.

On Battle of Britain Sunday, a detachment from 602 Squadron halted at Kelvingrove and a wreath was laid by Sqn.Ldr. Archie McCallum, Officer Commanding, at the 602 Squadron Memorial. There followed a Church Service in Renfield St.Stephen’s organised by The Royal Air Forces Association, Glasgow Branch. This is an annual event in the city.

In our view the occasion was celebrated as normal without the pomp and circumstance of others.

We will remember them. Cave Leonem Cruciatum.
