Frances Fielding asks: "Who will protect this precious greenbelt?" (Letters, September 22). Since then two letters have appeared in favour of Park of Keir. In the interest of balance readers should know that Judy Murray's proposal is just one example of several other schemes being thrown at residents by developers in a main issues report from Stirling Council.

One of these involves building up to 450 units including offices and shops on land owned by Ann Gloag immediately to the north of Park of Keir. These proposals cannot be taken in isolation. Broaching the greenbelt in one area is setting a precedent for development elsewhere.

Dunblane already has a major shortfall of primary and high school places, its sewage infrastructure cannot cope, there is an acute shortage of parking, the schools have a major problem with road safety and the health centre is creaking at the seams.

The erosion of the woodlands, widely used by residents for recreational purposes and abundant with flora and fauna would be disgraceful in the extreme. Stirling Council should simply say no to these and any future proposals and carry out their duty to protect the greenbelt.
