MY wife and I had the good fortune to visit the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and view the Vettriano exhibition ("Vettriano exhibition breaks record", The Herald, February 20).

Although it was the busiest I've ever seen any art exhibition, the crush was well worthwhile.

Every picture told a story and this man from Fife conjures up a smouldering atmosphere in every canvas.

There were countless mysterious brunettes, whose allure reached out from the pictures, amidst a collection of roguish, Runyonesque characters triggering the question: "What happened next?"

Mr Vettriano, pictured, need not worry. He has given great pleasure to thousands of admirers, and, in all my life, I've never seen a statue to a critic. You're alright, Jack.
