The 43rd edition of the Ryder Cup begins tomorrow.
Team Europe will be hoping to retain the trophy on foreign soil as they take on the US at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.
The United States are odds-on favourites to continue the dominance of home teams in the biennial contest, with Europe’s ‘Miracle at Medinah’ in 2012 the only away victory in the last seven.
All 12 of Steve Stricker’s side are ranked inside the world’s top 21 and have a record-low average ranking of 8.9, compared to 30.8 for Padraig Harrington’s European team.
These are the 12 men representing Europe, and these are the 12 men representing the US - but who should you be backing?

Using historical Betfair odds dating back to 2000, they reveal that four of the seven Ryder Cups that Team Europe have won since 2002 came when they were the pre-tournament underdogs - while the USA have won just two Ryder Cups in nine attempts despite being the bookie's favourites five times.
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Europe’s recent success in the Ryder Cup has been when they are underdogs in the betting with four of their five wins since 2002 coming when the USA were favourites on Betfair Exchange.

“Europe will be hoping for a repeat of that this time as they’re 6/4 outsiders to retain the title - a 36 per cent chance according to Betfair’s Swing-O-Meter - while the USA are 8/15 to win on home soil.”

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
