A 34-year-old man has denied researching firearms while planning an attack against soldiers and police officers in Birmingham.

Jason Savage appeared at the Old Bailey on Friday by videolink from HMP Belmarsh.

Wearing a grey jumper, Savage, of Fourth Avenue, Small Heath, denied one count of preparing an act of terrorism.

Savage is alleged to have carried out research into the manufacture of firearms and the lethal use of knives.

He is also alleged to have carried out reconnaissance into an attack location in Wright Street, Birmingham, and to have carried out research on targets including members of the armed forces and the West Midlands Police.

A trial date has been set for January 14 at Birmingham Crown Court.

He will next appear for a case management hearing at the same court on December 20.
