The Herald Scottish Politician of the Year Awards took place on Thursday night with Anas Sarwar named as the overall winner.

The Scottish Labour leader earned his award for the work done in the impressive performance in the General Election this summer as his party jumped from one MP to 37.

It's the second time in three years he's claimed the prize having won it in 2022, with Dame Jackie Baillie winning it in 2023.

He saw off competition from SNP duo John Swinney and Kate Forbes to claim the top prize.

Ms Forbes did get her hands on an award, though, being named as the Politics in Business Award winner.

There were also awards for the Green Party's Lorna Slater and Ross Greer, while Labour's Kirsty McNeill took home the one to watch award.

The Scottish Conservative Party's Jackson Carlaw won Committee MSP of the Year while former First Minister Humza Yousaf won the Donald Dewar Debater of the Year Award.

Fiona Hennebry was named Local Politician Of The Year while Linda, Stuart and Scott Allan won the Campaigner of the Year prize.
