With reference to the letter from Leonard Hemming regarding squirrels in the garden (Squirrels are ruining garden', December 7), I too have this problem.

I have lashed a cane to a hanging basket frame so the end of the cane is some three feet from the wall. Empty plastic milk bottles with holes at the base placed along the cane, end on to each other, have so far kept the squirrels away from nuts hanging on the end of the cane.

I have yet to protect bird seed on the table, possibly greasing the under-structure would suffice. As regards bulbs in the garden I can only suggest netting over the ground, well held down to prevent the squirrels getting underneath.
